Blog ;Drawing

Today I will be out drawing for a good part of the day.I have also brought my camera to catch some of the images that move away from me to fast. I would like to get some images of people waiting, this will add to my project of the same subject.

Richard Schmid painting

This is a painting by Richard Schmid this artist is my current hero, such amazing abilities. I aspire to a fraction of what he is capable of.

Notes from my kind

It's not a matter of painting life, it's a matter of giving life to painting.

Blog ;framing

Framing today...I have always framed my own etchings and now most of my daily paintings. I'm always looking for great deals, One place to find the best deal is the internet and search for used frames .I have quite a collection of frames that I got at yard sales and have often painted the size I needed for a frame , just purchased.

Blog ;energy

Ben Franklin said that energy and persistence conquer all things...I could use a little bit of both right now. Today was not a good day for the artist in me..I wiped my canvas clean after a failed attempt at a likeness of a friend. Try again tomorrow.

Blog; Hard work

Beside being an artist I am also a dad, boyfriend , brother, friend and a son...today was spent with a hammer in hand remodeling my mothers kitchen. I felt good helping her and she deserves her new kitchen. I think I used a few muscles that lay dormant for a while so I am sore. what does this have to do with art? It takes away from my time as a artist.

Blog; Its not easy

Its not easy being an artist sometimes. I just visited a local popular gift shop with quite alot of art objects. The paintings at this shop are prints but they are in some quite beautiful frames and they look like real works of art. My thoughts go to the fact that these nice pieces are a competition to any moneys that might be spent on an original work of art. How many people out there care if the picture on there wall is a one of kind or a good priced reproduction in a fancy frame. I guess I should just focus on the major goal...being a better artist.

Blog ;Art show

I went to the Art show yesterday and beside enjoying it I also made a few observations. 1 people like realism and the more lifelike the better. Several artist had themes of dogs or horses, these were also popular. I myself am like a lot of the show judges are and that is I'm looking for something different .

Notes from my kind

When painting avoid schemes that offer recipes for creating color harmonies the best thing is to with your gut feeling and what you see in front of you.

Blog on Art

I have been making Art along time and I am still amazed at the process, at the outcome and at the reaction we are faced with. Great thinkers have made their observations on the subject and the layman has his opinion but just consider the bulk of it. A work of Art being made... a soul with hands and brush calling up this magic that can speak to us all. A painting made hundreds of years ago and a line of people waiting to get a closer look. A Mona Lisa a Guernica a Starry Night. I fully embrace Art, it is truly astonishing.

Notes from my kind

It is so important to have good lighting while painting, why spend hours or days on a work that will look bad when shown in a well lit gallery or an outdoor event.
