I was thinking about the things that I like to paint and portraits share the top of my list. Nothing satisfies me more than succeeding in catching the humanity behind the eyes or finding the nearly told story emanating from the lips. Give me the gesture of the turn or the smooth cheek, the rough cheek, give to me a fellow human and I will revel in trying to catch some quintessence.
